As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations we hosted the SAGAS Summer 2006 meeting at Croydon on Saturday 3rd June 2006.
The event was attended by about 95 people who seemed to enjoy, the lectures, food and Sun. Following the event a number of present and ex-members as well as 4 passers by went to Kenley Observatory to have a look at the developments. Following a visit to the Wattenden Arms by most of the visitors they returned in time to see Mercury both through the Telescope and with binoculars.
As we don't have sufficient web space here to put copies of all the images taken on the day they can be found on the Google Picasa web site at http://picasaweb.google.com/JHKMurrell
Here is an image of Mercury taken on the 3rd June using the Meade Telescope as a camera mount. (Mercury is the light dot in about the vertical centre of the picture and to the right of centre.) The original is better - compressing and shrinking the image has made Mercury less clear. The odd image shape is a result of the camera being mounted on a telescope on a wedge. Unfortunately the Meade camera mount does not allow you to rotate the camera so the image has been rotated in software.
