Brahe ? ,Newton ?, Hipparcos ?, or Perryman ?
Following The BBC’s search for ‘The Greatest Britain’ of all time we have decided to find ‘The Greatest Astronomer of all time’.
Galileo ? , Beg ?, Hershel
? or Hale ?
On Friday 14th March 2003
we will be holding our Great Debate at The Royal Russell school to
decide who is the Greatest Astronomer of all Time.
Khayyam ?, Hubble ?, Al-Battani ? or Alcock ?
Will your favourite win ? We are
looking for volunteers to put the case for who you believe is The Greatest
Astronomer of all time. The current list of candidates for ‘The Greatest
Astronomer of all time’ is at the bottom of the page together with the
champion who has volunteered to speak for them.
Ptolomy ?, Copernicous ?, Ptobio ? or Abdullah ?
Each speaker will have a strictly
limited time to put the case for their candidate – this will be about 100
minutes divided by the number of speakers. Only one speaker will be allowed to
speak for each astronomer.
Leavitt?, Carrington ?, Huggins ? or Wolszczan ?
If your candidate for ‘The
Greatest Astronomer of all Time’ is not in the list below there is no
chance in them winning unless you volunteer to speak for them. Where more than
one person volunteers to speak for the same astronomer the sender of the first
EMAIL received will be given priority. To ensure that your choice
becomes The Greatest Astronomer of all Time volunteer now to speak about
them on the 14th March 2003 by sending an EMAIL to TheGreatDebate@CroydonAstro.org.uk. Do it NOW
Halley ?, Green ? Rosse ? or Lowell ?
